Thanks again for taking the time to reply. nope - BFD3 is the only plugin I have which is capable of making it crash

FXPANSION BFD 3 GROOVE INSTALL

I did a clean install when I installed the last build, just in case but no dice

FXPANSION BFD 3 GROOVE 32 BIT

64 bit, in fact I don't think I have any 32 bit plugins left now all the files (including the core library) except the dll are in root/program files/fxpansion the standalone appears to work OK, so I suppose at a push I could build the parts in the built-in groove editor and export the audio (helluva faff though) I only have one plugin folder (plus the default folder for VST3 plugins) and there's only one BFD3.dll

updated a few weeks ago to v3.3.1 build 33 (latest version) but it didn't fix the crashing, if anything it's worse now I do suspect there's something in my BFD3 settings that isn't quite right but so far I can't pin it down. Thanks for the reply, and the callout to - I might try to PM him also. Is anything else making Reaper crash or just BFD3?

Have you tried completely uninstalling BFD3's program files (not the drum data) and doing a clean install with PC restarts in between? Tried checking the VST plugins folder for duplicates? In answer to your questions, I dont have anything tweaked particularly in BFD3. There is a member of BFD's dev team on the Reaper forums but I dont think they log in that often. I dont have any solutions tbh, sorry about that, but FWIW, BFD3 here is rock solid on Reaper with a mere 16gb RAM, and streaming from a mechanical drive, not an SSD. Well, that was a long message so sorry about that but I hope someone out there can lend a hand. I tried updating the existing profile, and creating my own, but neither approach worked. Speaking of which, I did try fiddling with the 'Engine' preferences (like ticking 'Load All to RAM'), but the preferences don't seem to get saved into the profile. I can see from reading the forum here that some of you run BFD3 without tears, so I'm hoping there are some tweaks I haven't yet tried. Normally I'd have given up by now and bought another plugin (I have to admit I am looking at Addictive Drums) but over the years I've spent quite a bit of money on BFD3 what with upgrades and expansions, plus it sounds so good (when it behaves itself) I'm reluctant to give up just yet. I'm running Win10 64bit and it's an i5 2400 at 3.1Ghz so the CPU is getting on a bit (like me) but as I said everything else I run is solid. I have 32GB RAM and I switched the hard drive over to SSD some months ago (mainly in an effort to get BFD3 working I have to say). The only way I can render the track is to do just a few bars (literally a few seconds) at a time, and even that is hit-and-miss. I've tried freezing/rendering the whole song's drum track and that is guaranteed to crash. I know it's not Reaper, it's usually rock solid with any other VST instrument or effect. No warning, no crash log - Reaper just spontaneously closes.

I'm hoping someone can help me out with some tips for BFD3 - like how to stop it crashing all the time For example yesterday it crashed about a dozen times within an hour, sometimes while I was editing the MIDI it was playing back, sometimes while it was simply playing back the file. We've supported FXpansion products since 2005, all the way back to BFD version 1. That functionality was removed by FXpansion, probably because the files are essentially the same. In fact, the "BFD3" files were actually created by converting our BFD2 files. Note: Our BFD2 can be imported into BFD3 with essentially the same procedure.
